The Slee rear bumper for the 100 Series Land Cruiser / LX470 has now been updated to reflect our new carrier design with the single latch closing. The bumper and tire carrier is a bolt on installation. No drilling or cutting is required on the frame. The bumper is formed from 3/16″ laser cut steel.

  • All the 3/16 (7GA) material on the bumper is also now manufactured from High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) has nearly twice the strength and  impact resistance of general purpose mild steel (A1011 and A36). 30-36ksi Yield strength vs 50ksi yield strength minimum.

The bumper is finished with final 60% gloss powder coat finish on top of a zinc primer. The pre-treatment includes baking to remove all oil, phosphate washing, sandblasting and then a powder coating is applied. The bumper now features plate style carriers. The tire carrier can be used as an accessory mount if the tire mount is removed. The tire carrier accepts a 4 Gallon Rotopax can (optional hardware required). An optional Maxtrax Mount kit can be purchased if the user would like to store 2 x Maxtrax recovery boards on the carrier.

Slee have designed a new proprietary latch system to close the carriers. A single latch secures both carriers shut. The latch is designed to be easily operated for both opening the closing. The latch is designed to position the opening hand in a natural orientation to make opening and closing easy. The finger tab positions the U-bolt in the latching position to prevent finger pinching risks. The handle on the latch stays in the upright position to make it easier to close. Stainless Steel safety pins keep the carriers closed in the unlikely event that the latch fails, or the user forgets to close the latch.

Each carrier is held open with a gas strut that locks upon opening to ensure that the carriers does not accidently close when vehicle is off-camber. This does require the user to unlock the carrier before closing. If users do not require the locking feature, the locking collar can be removed. The gas struts also aid in closing the carrier and are located such that the carrier does not fly open as soon as the latch is released. Once the latch is released, the safety pin is pulled and the carrier is opened using the T-handle on the safety pin.

Swing-out carriers pivot on large 1.75″ spindles with servicable roller tapered bearings to ensure smooth opening even with heavy loads on the the carriers. A propriety cap seals the hub and allows for easy removal and servicing of the bearings. A grease zerk allows for greasing of the bearings without removing the carriers.

Servicable tapered roller bearings ensure smooth operation.

Bumper is supplied with LED license plate light and mount located on the ladder/accessory carrier. An optional receiver can be purchased to install through the bumper.

The bumper mounts to the frame using integrated and bolt on brackets. The rearmost bracket bolts to the bottom of the frame using existing holes in the frame. The bracket is also bolted through the frame in a horizontal direction.

    The Slee aluminum rear bumper boasts a mix of 3/16”, 1/4”, and 3/8” CNC cut and formed 5052 Aluminum.  Akin to its big brother, the steel swing out rear, it uses all steel frame bracketry and ¾” thick recovery points that are mounted directly to the frame. The brackets ensure that the factory spare location remains fully functional.

    Bumper features cut-outs for receiver hitch and pin installation. Also allows complete access to safety chain hookups.

    The clearance and exterior aesthetics remain unchanged from our steel swingout bumper. However, the interior has been structurally reinforced to make sure that it holds up for years to come. Large gusseting and additional flanges tie the wings to the frame mounts. These add rigidity to the corners and keep them from snagging on rocks and debris. Strategically placed slots allow for water and grime egress, as well as, a point to hi-lift from.

    The Slee 200 Series rear bumper was designed from the ground up to be a heavy duty rear bumper with unmatched versatility in customization by the end user. We used our experience from producing rear bumper for Land Cruiser and carried forward the important parts learned from years of abuse by end users. We made no compromises in features and addressed all short comings of previous generation bumpers we have produced.

    All 7ga material (bumper shell and formed carrier parts) are now High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) has nearly twice the strength and impact resistance of general purpose mild steel (A1011 and A36). 30-36ksi Yield strength vs 50ksi yield strength minimum.

    Bumper photos on this page are gray but production bumpers are supplied in black semi gloss powder coat. 

    The 200 series chassis presented a unique set of challenges to attached a bumper to the rear that is both cosmetically pleasing but can endure the stresses of off-road use and abuse.

    The bumper system starts with a series of sturdy brackets that are attached to the frame that creates fastening points for the shell. These brackets are produced from various thicknesses of material, up to 3/8″ to make the mounting system extremely heavy duty.  It also allowed us to attach 3/4″ thick recovery points directly to the frame. The bracket system utilizes a number of factory captive nuts, some installed rivet nuts and nut plates. All new hardware is supplied with the bumper.

    In addition to the rear brackets the wing brackets wrap the frame and provides for the re-installation of the OE tire mount. The optional AHC pump mount allows for installation of the OE AHC pump in the stock location.

    The bracket support system allows for adjust-ability to accommodate for frame tolerances to ensure proper fit and alignment. The 3/16″ main bumper shell attaches to the bracket system in a multitude of locations using 1/2″ grade 8 hardware.

    The bumper is also supplied with a bracket to mount the 7 pin trailer connector out of harms way.

    The bumper channel has provisions for additional trail lights, high output back up light (Rigid Ignite) and also all park sensors. The factory receiver is left accessible as well. All lights are supplied as well as adapter park sensor grommets to allow for the re-use of the factory park sensors.The swing arms pivot on 1.75″ spindles with tapered roller bearing for easy opening and closing. The swing arm opening is assisted with a gas strut that features a locking collar to keep the carriers open on off-camber situations. The gas strut is also positioned so that it aids in closing the carrier ensuring that the carrier does not fly open when the latch is undone. This allows for one handed operation to close the carriers.

    The locking collar can be removed if the off-camber locking is not required, eliminating one step of the closing process.

    A proprietary latch was developed that can be operated by one hand. A unique single latch system is used to keep both carriers securely latched. The tire carrier swing out locks the ladder / accessory swing-out using a proprietary wedge system. Both carriers are kept locked with spring loaded stainless steel pins that ensure that the carriers cannot open in case of a latch failure. The latch is ergonomically designed so that the users hand is not in an awkward strained position for opening and closing. The latch location was also chosen so that the user does not have to reach under tires / can holders or other bumper components to open the swing-outs.

    The u-bolt syle over the center latch has been proven to be fail safe, easily serviced with easy of adjust-ability to offers years of trouble free service.

    Proprietary latch machined out of billet aluminum with stainless steel components offer one handed operation of closing and opening carriers.

    The tire swing-out has a height adjustable tire mount with depth adjust-ability allowing for differing offset wheels/tire combinations to be installed correctly on the carrier. Since the bumper still allows for a factory spare tire in the stock location, a user could choose to remove the tire mount and would then be left with a versatile swing-out that features a flat surface area that custom attachments can be made for.

    The swing-out can also be configured to mount either two Maxtrax recovery boards or a single 4 gallon Rotopax gas can. The mounts are available as optional items. The bumper has an optional hi-lift or ARB jack mount that allows for the mounting of a hi-lift or ARB jack to the swing-out.

    The 2nd swing-out forms a sturdy ladder for access to the vehicles roof. The Slee Jerry Can Basket can also be bolted to the carrier for storage of three 5 gallon jerry cans. This carrier also has a mount for the license plate. An LED license plate light is supplied with the bumper. The ladder also forms a convenient attachment for customer add-ons.

    A bolt on hi-lift mount or ARB lift mount are optional that attach to the tire carrier. The tire mount can be removed should the user want to modify the swing-out for a custom application. The carrier has multiple holes for easy bolt on applications. The tire carrier is designed to accommodate up to a 37″ tire, with adjustability on the width.

    The ladder / accessory swing-out also features a variety of mounting holes for customization. The swing-out accepts all our standard accessories like the Jerry Can Basket or Rotopax Mount.
